Alliance Down District Councillor Patrick Clarke has urged the public to apply for the free home insulation scheme available through Power NI.
The free insulation, worth up to £800, is available to those on lower incomes. It could save each household up to £150 on energy bills every year.
Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke said, “Fuel poverty has become a larger problem in recent years with rising energy bills and the difficulties that people have faced since the economic downturn. Too many people have been forced to make a choice between heating and eating.
“I would encourage those on lower incomes to apply for the free home insulation from Power NI. Improving your home’s energy efficiency can result in savings of up to £150 on energy bills every year.
“It does not make any sense for people to be spending so much on energy bills, only for money to be wasted through insufficient insulation.
“The freezing weather conditions that we have witnessed in recent winters has shown the importance of being able to properly heat your home,” Clarke added.
