FORT WALTON BEACH —Construction is expected to begin later this month on the Building Industry Association’s 2014 Emerald Coast Dream Home.
The home, to be located at 201 Rigdon Court in Fort Walton Beach, is being built exclusively by BIA members as a fundraiser for the organization.
Businesses such as Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Gulf Coast Insulation, Jenkins Brick and Cemex have come aboard to work on the home.
“We have a slew of people that have already responded saying they want to contribute,” said Allan Baggett, executive officer of BIA. “It may be at cost, it may be a donation, it may be a combination of both.
“We’re hoping this is something we can do annually,” Baggett added.
The four-bedroom, three-bath home will feature 2,400 square feet of livable space, a two-car garage and several energy-efficient features.
Construction is expected to start in about two weeks and be completed by May 1, in time to be part of next year’s Parade of Homes on June 7 to 15.
Baggett believes the house will be sold with an asking price of about $380,000. The majority of the profits will be donated to the BIA and used to fund the group’s day-to-day operations, student scholarships and local charitable projects.
The last charitable home BIA built was in 1985. Called the Scholarship House, the proceeds were used to create an endowment at Northwest Florida State College that remains today for scholarships.
