Advertorial Feature: The Doncaster Free Press is working with British Gas to help readers stay warm and save money
A free insulation offer to beat the winter weather
Autumn is well and truly here so now is the time to make sure our homes are winter-proof.
A warm and welcoming home is a must as the thermometer drops.
Eligible Doncaster residents are being offered the chance to make sure their homes are cosy castles, well equipped to beat the winter chill.
The Government has launched the Energy Company Obligation scheme to make homes warmer and cheaper to run.
British Gas is insulating eligible homes as part of the scheme through initiatives such as cavity wall and loft insulation. If you qualify, a British Gas energy expert will carry out a free home survey and assess the suitability of your home for free or subsidised insulation.
The energy experts are in the area until December 13, giving unbiased advice on the best energy efficiency solutions for YOUR home.

Your questions answered
Q Why is the insulation free or subsidised and can I get it?
A The Government’s ECO initiative means British Gas is required to install cavity wall insulation and loft insulation into some homes for free or at a subsidised cost. See if you are eligible at britishgas.co.uk/doncaster
Q This sounds too good to be true – is there a catch?
A You don’t have to buy any products or services or be a British Gas customer. British Gas will send an energy expert to your home who will confirm then and there if you qualify for free or subsidised insulation. And if British Gas can’t insulate for free or at a subsidised cost, an energy expert can still advise you on ways to save energy and money in your home.
Q Will I notice any changes once my home has been insulated?
A You’ll notice an immediate difference. Your home will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Plus you’ll see savings on your energy bills.
Q I don’t own the property, can I still get insulation?
A If you are renting you can still get insulation. You just need to ask your landlord for permission.
Q I’ve stuff in my loft do I need to clear it to get insulation?
A Experienced installers can normally work around a few items in a loft but the energy expert can give more information during your survey.
Q If I need to clear my loft could I get help?
A Yes. British Gas could give you £150‡ towards the cost of having your loft cleared.
Q I already have loft insulation – do I need wall insulation too?
A If your walls aren’t insulated, you could be wasting more money on your energy bills. An energy expert will check whether you are eligible for cavity wall insulation and will also check that you have the right amount of loft insulation.
Q How long will insulation take?
A cavity wall and loft insulation should each take around half a day to install. British Gas installers will ensure any mess is cleared up before they leave.
