SPARKS, NEV. (KRNV & MyNews4.com)–Leaders from the Airport Authority, local contractors and neighbors celebrated the 5,000th home to become “sound proofed”.
Thousands of homes are directly in the flightpath of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Over the past 20 years, federal grants have provided those residents with sound proof windows, doors and insulation.
Today, the 5,000th home was sound proofed. The residents living there, Al and Kay Raiche said before the changes it was hard for them to hear the other side of a phone call. Now, after the changes, they say they can barely hear the airplanes. They’ve lived in their home for 23 years.
The Raiches are two of nearly 14,000 residents who have had their homes completely sound proofed, free of charge. These improvements were provided by federal grants.
The local contracting company, “Alpine Energy” sound proofed the Raiche’s home. They say the contractor was great and really worked with them on the changes.
There are still about 100 homes that will receive those insulation changes, and those are expected to be complete by next year.
