Weather-stripping is an important part of keeping your home energy efficient. Doors and windows that lead outside will need to be weather-stripped so that air won’t sneak in between the cracks.
Weather-Stripping Will Wear Out
When you buy a window or a door there will be built-in weather-stripping. Unfortunately, this isn’t a “you have it now, you’re good to go forever” type of a deal. Weather-strips will wear out. You can tell if yours is becoming ineffective if you can feel cold air around the door or window on a winter day. All outside doors should be weather-stripped, along with any doors that are leading to an uninsulated area in your home, such as the garage. Windows shouldn’t have to be done as often as doors since they are not used as often, but if you can feel a cold draft from around the windows, it’s time for an upgrade.
