GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Stormy winter weather is on the way and it’s time to put those winterization projects at the top of your to-do list so you home is better able to handle the cold.
Housing Resources of Western Colorado is offering free weather-proofing upgrades for families to help improve energy efficiency and comfort inside of their homes, year-round.
“A lot of the older homes, down towards the downtown area, when they were built, there was no insulation in the homes,” says Energy Technician, Isaac Sandmann. “I get up in the attic and there’s maybe two inches of insulation and there’s nothing in the walls.”
The Colorado Energy Office has set the following guidelines to help residents determine their eligibility. If a resident currently receives financial assistance from any of the following programs, they automatically income qualify for the weatherization services:
• Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
• Aid to Needy and Disabled (AND)
• Old Age Pension (OAP)
• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
Eligibility can also be determined by household incomes.
Number of people in the home: Annual Household Income
1: $22,980.00
2: $31,020.00
3: $39,060.00
4: $47,100.00
5: $55,140.00
6: $63,180.00
7: $71,220.00
8: $79,260.00
For families with more than 8 persons, add $4,020 for each additional person.
