Many people wonder if they should insulate their garage. Well, if you have living space above your garage, the answer is definitely yes. If you don’t, the rooms above the garage space will be uncomfortable and won’t be energy efficient. The best way to solve these problems is to insulate the ceiling of your garage. You can usually see if the ceiling of your garage is insulated simply by looking at it, unless it is covered with gypsum board.
Before you insulate the ceiling of your garage, make sure that it is sealed. Any air that might seep through needs to be stopped since the rest of the garage isn’t insulated at all and the air in the garage is typically drastically different than what you want the living space to be. Insulation won’t be enough to keep the air out, so make sure the ceiling is air-sealed before putting in any insulation.
